Safety & Security Enterprise
Business Incubator ////////////////////////////////
The EKU Business & Technology Incubator for Safety & Security
is located in the new Business & Technology Center building
on EKU’s campus. It is located on the Lake Level
in the College of Business & Technology.
The mission of the Incubator is to create an environment that stimulates the
development of safety and security-related enterprises and contributes to the
development of a safety and security business cluster and enhanced economic development
in the Commonwealth. The Incubator provides multi-faceted services.
The Incubator obviously serves as a focused industry, small business incubator/accelerator,
ideally supporting growing technology enterprises in the safety and security
industry sector.
Operated as a University Program within EKU, the Incubator is a collaboration
of EKU’s College of Business and Technology and the College of Justice
and Safety and is operated by the Center for Economic Development, Entrepreneurship
and Technology (CEDET).
Through the strategic relationship with the College of Justice & Safety we
anticipate business development emanating from the College’s Justice & Safety
Center, a Program of Distinction. We would also expect business development
from our College of Business & Technology, other EKU programs, research funded
by the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institute of Hometown Security,
the Kentucky Homeland Security University Consortium, regional activities and
initiatives through Oak Ridge National Lab and the Tennessee Valley Corridor
and other sources.
The Incubator is also now the base of operations for the Eastern Region Innovation & Commercialization
Center (ICC). The ICC has developed an effective and successful commercialization
protocol and assists small technical companies to develop and refine their business
plans, operations and funding strategies. The ICC also assists in identifying
grant and funding opportunities and in formulating proposal strategies, facilitating
service provider or partner introductions and relations and provides mentoring
to improve competitive position and probability. A key objective is to
refine client investor pitch and to facilitate investor access to assure opportunity
for sustained growth and success.
The Incubator provides shared resources, affordable space and access to faculty,
staff and management assistance. Five affordable offices are available
for new business start-ups or growing business entities. The companies
will share a conference room and associated equipment and nominal reception/clerical
assistance.
